Learn the reasons why you have Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) and how the root causes determine which treatments will and won't work.

What caused your SIBO – and more importantly, why does it matter? Learn about the most common underlying causes of SIBO, plus how to determine the underlying causes in your case. Then, find out why knowing your underlying cause is such an important part of the healing process, and how misunderstanding your underlying cause could lead to needless suffering (not to mention the cost of time and money).

Here's the tricky part:

SIBO doesn't just show up out of nowhere.

Something is causing it.

  • Maybe it's a migrating motor complex that isn't sweeping bacteria out of your small intestine the way it should.

  • Maybe it's a structural issue, like adhesions from a surgery you had years ago, or an ileocecal valve that's stuck open.

  • Maybe it's food poisoning you had so long ago you don't even remember it, because here's the thing most people don't realize: food poisoning symptoms can be so mild you barely notice, and the SIBO it triggers can show up two or three months later with zero obvious connection.

One of Dr. Siebecker's patients had no memory of food poisoning whatsoever. None. But the blood test came back positive, and that was her answer after years of mystery.

There are dozens of possible causes, from hypothyroidism to Ehlers-Danlos to traumatic brain injury to the antibiotics you took for a sinus infection. Most people don't have just one. They have several, stacked on top of each other, quietly accumulating, until one final straw pushes everything over the edge.

And that's exactly why so many people treat their SIBO, feel better for a few months, and then relapse. Because the treatment handled the overgrowth, but nobody found the thing underneath that allowed the overgrowth to happen in the first place. It's like mopping the floor while the faucet's still running. You can mop beautifully, but you're going to be mopping again.

The real path forward is identifying YOUR specific underlying cause, or more likely, your specific combination of causes, and then addressing those directly. Some of them are very fixable. Medications can be changed. An ileocecal valve can be manually adjusted. Adhesions can be treated with specialized physical therapy. Others, like Ehlers-Danlos or scleroderma, can't be cured but can absolutely be managed well enough that you're not stuck in an endless relapse cycle. Either way, you can't fix what you haven't found.

And that's what this masterclass is built to help you do.

Shivan Sarna, founder of SIBO SOS® and author of Healing SIBO. After a lifetime of digestive problems, she was diagnosed with SIBO in 2015. Shivan was so excited to finally have a name for the symptoms that made me miserable – but she was quickly very frustrated by how hard it was to get access to reliable SIBO information, or even an appointment with a doctor who had experience treating SIBO. She set out to get answers about SIBO for herself – but along the way, she met thousands of people who had the same challenges.

Sound familiar? These questions come up constantly—so we built a class to answer them.

What if food poisoning I don't even remember is why my SIBO keeps coming back?

No. Dr. Allison Siebecker explains how you can order a lactulose breath tests yourself (no doctor required) and complete the test at home.

Could my own medications be quietly fueling my SIBO?

The masterclass breaks down which gas types are most commonly tied to constipation, diarrhea, or mixed symptoms—so you can choose the right testing approach instead of guessing.

I've treated my SIBO more than once, so why does it keep relapsing?

What if my SIBO is actually a structural problem nobody has looked for?

Could a stomach flu I brushed off months ago be the starting point of all of this?

This is exactly why the class exists. Labs use standardized criteria that can miss real cases, and Dr. Siebecker teaches how she interprets results differently.

What if no treatment has stuck because I've been solving the wrong problem?

What if I don't have one underlying cause but several, stacked on top of each other?

Could a surgery or injury from years ago be silently obstructing my small intestine today?

I've done the antimicrobials, the diet, and the prokinetics, but has anyone helped me figure out WHY I have SIBO?

What would change if I finally knew the specific, treatable reason my SIBO exists?
