But for most people, that's not how it goes.
Multiple rounds of treatment are usually needed, and you may not feel any better after the first one, even if the treatment is actually working.
Different types of SIBO require completely different antibacterials, and what works for one person may do absolutely nothing for another. Sometimes only one of the three treatment types will work for you, and there's no way to know which one until you try.
On top of all that, two thirds of SIBO cases are chronic, meaning the SIBO comes back after treatment because something underneath is still causing it. So you can do everything "right" and still find yourself back where you started, wondering what went wrong.
And then there are the cases that go beyond frustrating into genuinely confusing.
Do you:
react to every supplement and medication they're given.
Have a negative SIBO tests result after treatment but still have all the same symptoms.
Have you tried every protocol and nothing seems to stick.
What Dr. Siebecker and many of her SIBO-specialist colleagues have found is that these tough cases almost always have something else going on underneath, whether it's mold illness silently blocking every treatment you try, a structural issue nobody has looked for, a nervous system stuck in fight-or-flight that won't let the gut heal, or an underlying condition like Ehlers-Danlos that keeps recreating the problem.
The answers exist, but they're not in the obvious places.
Dr. Siebecker gathered answers from several colleagues to get answers.
A message from Dr. Allison Siebecker, SIBO specialist
Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) is a condition where certain organisms overgrow in the intestines, interfering with digestion and nutrient absorption, and causing symptoms like altered gut motility and bloating. SIBO is now recognized as a leading root cause behind IBS, chronic bloating, food sensitivities, reflux, and stubborn digestive symptoms that keep coming back.
The correct treatment and timing matters - stop throwing random supplements, diets, or antibiotics at the problem.

“ I had no urge, bowel movements maybe once every 5 to 7 days, no help from any of the laxatives, the prokinetic, fiber, the squatty potty, suppositories... to get anything to happen. And now I have no side effects, this masterclass gave me what I needed. ”

Together, we created these resources to give you the guidance and support we wish we had when we started our own healing journeys. We’ve both been where you are now, and we know exactly how overwhelming it can feel. But we also know there’s a way forward — a clear path to healing that we’re excited to share with you.

Dr. Siebecker is the 2021 GastroANP Lifetime Achievement award winner (from her peers) and has treated SIBO exclusively for 15 years. She is in an instructor of advanced gastroenterology and NUNM and co-created the SIBO treatment algorithm used by practitioners worldwide. She's not teaching theory. She's teaching what actually works—the interpretation methods she uses with real patients who finally got better and practitioners around the world.

Shivan Sarna, founder of SIBO SOS® and author of Healing SIBO. After a lifetime of digestive problems, she was diagnosed with SIBO (Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth) in 2015. Shivan was so excited to finally have a name for the symptoms that made me miserable – but she was quickly very frustrated by how hard it was to get access to reliable SIBO information, or even an appointment with a doctor who had experience treating SIBO. She set out to get answers about SIBO for herself – but along the way, she met thousands of people who had the same challenges.
No. Dr. Allison Siebecker explains how you can order a lactulose breath tests yourself (no doctor required) and complete the test at home.
The masterclass breaks down which gas types are most commonly tied to constipation, diarrhea, or mixed symptoms—so you can choose the right testing approach instead of guessing.
This is exactly why the class exists. Labs use standardized criteria that can miss real cases, and Dr. Siebecker teaches how she interprets results differently.
"I was at my wit's end with SIBO. The bloating, the pain, the constant anxiety about where the nearest bathroom was... I felt like a prisoner in my own body. But then I found Shivan's masterclass with Dr. Siebecker. Suddenly, everything clicked into place. I learned more in that one session than I had in years of doctor's visits. Thank you, Shivan and Dr. Siebecker, for giving me my life back!" - Amy K.
"Before this class, I felt like I was stumbling around in the dark, trying random supplements and diets, hoping something would stick. But now, I feel empowered. I have a clear roadmap for my SIBO recovery. Dr. Siebecker's presentation was so comprehensive and easy to understand."
